The FOSS club of Amrita is focused on contributing to Free and Open Source Software and mentoring students to achieve excellence in various fields of Computer Science. Free and open-source software (FOSS) is a computer software that can be classified as both free software and open-source software. Free, open-source operating systems such as Linux,Ubuntu,Fedora are widely utilized today, powering millions of servers, desktops, smart phones (e.g. Android), and other devices. Free software licenses and open-source licenses are used by many software packages. This Club will provide the students by giving the opportunity to run, to study, to improve a program and to redistribute copies to help each other by making the software free and open source.

Objectives
  • To encourage the students voluntarily improve the design of the software.
  • To provide freedom to run the program as the student wish, for any purpose.
  • To develop software that is cheaper, reliable and has better quality.
  • To distribute copies of modified versions to others. By doing this the student can give the whole community a chance to benefit from their changes.
  • To improve student's success by providing students with leading edge software needed to best meet academic, career and personal improvement goals.
