Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy

Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy is established at Amrita College of Engineering and Technology, Nagercoil under the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering with the aim to encourage the interchange of ideas, promote cutting-edge technology research, and assist in the development of renewable energy applications that are suitable for India.This Centre caters to the needs of students in the departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. This Centre intends to create a consultation platform for professionals working in the field of renewable energy around the world in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment.The Centre is equipped with Solar PV modules, Solar PV Emulator, Wind Energy trainer module, Battery charging and discharging unit, Hybrid inverter system, Solar Charge Controller, Solar UPS and supporting software tools, with a sufficient number of computers.To satisfy the energy needs, this Centre will promote energy efficiency and the adoption of clean energy, geothermal, and renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydro, and biomass, among others, and will explore various renewable energy policies at the local, regional, and national levels. Also, the Centre will host many workshops/seminars to promote emerging technologies as part of its outreach Programme.

Centre of Excellence on Intel Intelligent Systems Laboratory

INTEL Intelligent Systems Laboratory is established at Amrita College of Engineering and Technology, Nagercoil under the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering with the aim of improving student knowledge and employability skills in the field of Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and High Performance Computing in bridging the gaps between industry and academia. This Centre caters to the needs of students in the departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science Engineering. INTEL Intelligent Systems Laboratory is a unique platform or our students to fine-tune their software and core knowledge, as well as to create a large number of professional experts with industry-required skills. The Centre is equipped with personal computer systems interfaced with Atom Minnow Max Boards with LAN powered by high speed internet connectivity in a friendly and professional environment.In addition, the Intel Intelligent Systems Laboratory will enhance the on-campus learning culture by promoting research and practical learning, as well as providing students with great placement opportunities. It will focus on innovative interdisciplinary research efforts in the area of Internet of Things (IoT) and assistive technologies related to Intelligent Systems and entrepreneurship in sectors like as engineering, science, and social science to cater to the demands of society.

Amrita Centre for Automation and Robotics (ACAR)

The Amrita Centre for Automation and Robotics (ACAR) was started on 26th October 2021 at Amrita College of Engineering and Technology, Nagercoil. This Centre is very unique because of its multidisciplinary nature involving active participation of the Departments of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering and Mechanical Engineering etc., ACAR, backed by the able management of Amrita, is focusing on the study of Automation at its highest level. Moreover, it has excellent conceptual and instrumental potential based on the experience of researchers and its facilities. The Centre’s main objective is to develop research in Automation and Robotics areas that will mainly be applied in providing beneficial results to Society. The Centre is currently equipped with 3D printers, CNC machines, microcontrollers, and supporting hardware and software tools, with a sufficient number of computers. And in future, it is aimed to facilitate the features with industrial robots. The Research and Development activities in this area are therefore taken as main focus of the newly formed “How to 3D Print”. The workshops on “How to 3D Print” is carried out regularly, with the resources in our lab for the skill development of the students.

Objectives of Centre for Automation and Robotics:

To support students and faculty members to take up multidisciplinary research and projects.

To familiarize students with interfacing robotic systems with computers and programming them with specific, controlled motions.

To familiarize students with additive manufacturing technologies

The center’s focus is to develop research in Automation and Robotics areas that will mainly be applied in providing beneficial results to society.

Currently, students use an inexpensive 3D printer based on Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) technology to print mostly with acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) or polylactic acid (PLA) 1.75 mm diameter filaments. These filaments are widely used in FDM 3D printers and can be obtained from many suppliers.

Students produced over two hundred objects ranging from simple teacups to sophisticated multi-part assemblies. One 3-D printer is provided to every 10-15 students. Also, every student is provided with powerful PCs and necessary modelling and slicing software facilities. The center is currently equipped with 3D printers and supporting hardware and software tools, with around 15 desktop computers.
