Department of Biological Science

AMRITA Institutions, Amrita College of Education marks a clear shift from classroom and laboratory centered science pedagogy. The student teachers of the college are given ample experiences and opportunities to explore science around them. Thus, integration in science teaching-learning is very important and scientific knowledge should not be compartmentalized in subject domains like physics, chemistry, biology up to secondary level.

As per the norms of TNTEU, Chennai the candidates, who have done their UG/PG Degree in Bio-Technology, Plant Biology, Plant Bio-Technology, Environmental Science and Micro-Biology, can apply for Pedagogy of Biological Science. Minimum marks with respect to community/category (OC- 50%, BC/BCM- 45%, MBC/DNC- 43%, SC/SCA/ST-40%) is mandatory for admission. The medium of instruction is in English and Tamil.

The College of Education focuses on pupil centred teaching. The whole teaching learning process is geared to the needs, requirements, capabilities and interest of the pupils. The purpose is to equip the teaching skills among the student teachers. The student teachers are trained in lesson plan preparation for micro, mini and macro teaching , instructional resources respectively so that they can apply various methods in teaching of science in real classrooms.

Science laboratory

The College of Education has well equipped laboratories for Biological science and Physical science. Students are encouraged to use these laboratories to learn through experiments. The laboratory has preserved biological specimens, charts, models, experimental apparatus, herbarium, microscopic slides etc.

International World Water Day

Poster presentation competition for student teachers was held on 22 nd March 2019 in connection with International World Water Day. This awareness programme focused attention on the importance of freshwater and sustainable management of freshwater resources.

World Tuberculosis Day

An awareness programme on Tuberculosis disease was organised on 25th March 2019. A medical team from Government Hospital, Asaripallam gave a detailed speech on prevention, causes, treatment of Tuberculosis. Slogan writing competition on eradicating Tuberculosis was conducted and prizes was given by Dr.Ranjith, GH,Nagercoil.
