Mathematics teaching is challenging and thus the Amrita Institutions, Amrita College of Education focuses on the extensive understanding of mathematics teaching skills. Innovations in teaching of mathematics can be diversified in terms of Methods and Pedagogic resources used in teaching-learning process. With the onset of innovations, teaching of mathematics is being interesting and joyful.


Candidates, who have completed their Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Mathematics, Engineering or Technology are eligible for admission to B.Ed Degree Programme in Pedagogy of Mathematics. As per the norms of TNTEU, Chennai minimum marks with respect to community (OC- 50%, BC/BCM- 45%, MBC/DNC- 43%, SC/SCA/ST-40%) is mandatory.

The curriculum of the pedagogic subject emphasis on critical thinking, problem solving, analytical thinking and quantitative skills etc. Students of this pedagogic subject study about the methodology and content mastery in their first and second year respectively. The student teachers are trained in lesson plan preparation for micro, mini and macro teaching respectively so that they can apply various methods in teaching of Mathematics.

Printed resources like books in Pedagogy of Mathematics, Journals and Magazines, Newspapers, Encyclopedias are adequate in the college library that helps the student teachers to update themselves.

Collection of teaching learning materials like charts, flash cards, booklets, models are also essential resources for teaching mathematics.

Mathematics Lab

Mathematics lab is a real platform to experiment and explore Mathematical ideas. Mathematical lab is equipped with collection of games, puzzles, teaching learning materials, mathematical kit, Geo board, geometry kit, etc., It provides an opportunity to the student teachers to understand and internalize the basic mathematical concepts through concrete objects and situations.

Mathematics club is functioning in the college systematically. The student teachers are encouraged to prepare variety of teaching resources for joyful learning of mathematics. The student teachers are given ample freedom to co-ordinate, participate and organize the MATHS CLUB activities.

The activities include quiz competitions, mathematics games, puzzles, projects, role play, seminars, discussions etc. These activities will help the students to develop skills in teaching mathematics.

Quiz competitions

The Mathematics club organized a Quiz competition on 9th July 2019 .Mrs.Remya, Faculty of Mathematics conducted the quiz competition. The student teachers of mathematics pedagogy actively partitcipated in the Quiz competition. Winners were given prizes.

National Mathematics Day

Government of India declared 21st December 2018, the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan as National Mathematics day. The department of pedagogy of mathematics organized a paper presentation competition on the theme “Contributions of Ramanujan”. Seven student teachers from pedagogy of Mathematics presented the papers.
