INAUGURATION (TIME 09:10 AM TO 10:00 AM)
The event started with an inaugural function between 09:10 AM to 10:00 AM at seminar hall, admin block. Shri Gopala Krishnan, Campus in-charge, Amrita Institutions and Dr.R.K.Suresh, Principal Amrita college of engineering and technology inaugurated the event by lighting Kuthuvilaku. Shri Gopala Krishnan delivered the presidential address and Principal felicitated the gathering.
INAUGURAL ADDRESS, 10:00 AM TO 10:40 AM
Dr. Manas Kumar Jena gave his inaugural address on Smart Grid-The Future Grid. The need for smart grid which had changed the phasor measurement unit to a central logical architecture was delivered. The existing research and future research directions in wide area monitoring were shared to the participants.
TECHNICAL SESSION 1 (TIME 10:50 AM TO 12:20 PM)
This session was delivered by Dr. Manas Kumar Jena on Wide Area Monitoring, Protection and Control (WAMPAC) – Architecture and Applications. The motivation for synchro phasor technology and its applications were discussed. Practical experiences of delivering wide area monitoring system solutions to control room were shared to the participants.
TECHNICAL SESSION 2 (TIME 01:00 PM TO 02:30 PM)
This session was delivered by Mr. Aravind M.N on PMU Internal Architecture and Modelling Aspects. An overview to phasor measurement unit, its internal architecture, modeling aspects and applications were discussed.
TECHNICAL SESSION 3 (TIME 02:40 PM TO 04:10 PM)
This session was delivered by Mr.Aravind M.N on PMU Data Based Disturbance Analysis. The basic requirements of wide area monitoring systems, fault detection and localization in wide area networks with case studies were delivered
Valedictory function was presided by Dr. R. Ramkumar, Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering, Amrita college of Engineering and Technology and presented memento to the resource persons. Certificate of participation were distributed to all the participants after the event..
PROFILE OF THE RESOURCE PERSONS
Dr. Manas Kumar Jena is working as an Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad. He received his Ph.D. in Power System Engineering from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India in 2018. From March, 2018 to June, 2019 he was working as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), at General Electric (GE-Power). He is the recipient of Indian National Academy of Engineers (INAE) Innovative Student Projects Award 2018- Doctoral Level, POSOCO Power System Award (PPSA)-2019 and Impact Award at GE for development and delivery of Phasor Analytics Software Solution to ONS-Brazil. Dr. Manas and his team provided WAMS based software solutions to various utilities/Operators across the world which include PGCIL-India, ONS-Brazil, ISO-New England, American Electric Power-USA, Tennet-The Netherlands etc.
Mr. Aravind M.N. is currently working as an Associate Scientist in ABB Global industries and Services Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore. Prior to this he was Research and Development Engineer at PRDC, Bangalore. He has 4 years of technical experience in the areas of power system protection, WAMS, PMUs, supervised protection methodologies and disturbance analysis. He has taken more than 15 trainings in various utilities and academic institutions. He has done his Masters in Power Systems from National Institute of Technology, Calicut and B.Tech from Government Engineering College, Thrissur. He has also worked in collaboration with Southern Region Load Despatch Center (POSOCO), Bangalore for building a dedicated software tool for disturbance analysis using PMU data. He has also received the POSOCO best thesis award for this M.Tech work.
